Najib wants to ensure 2/3 majority win for Barisan Nasional (BN)

Najib wants to ensure 2/3 majority win for Barisan Nasional (BN) – Academician

KUALA LUMPUR: The 13th general election will be held depending
on the success of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in fulfilling
his promises to the people, according to an academician.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) School of Social, Development
and Environment chairman, Assoc Prof Dr Fuad Mohd Jali, said Najib
wanted the people to enjoy the benefits from the transformation
programmes implemented by the government.
“I think Najib wants to ensure 2/3 majority win for Barisan Nasional
(BN). He also wants to ensure that all promises, such as going to the ground to meet the people, are
fulfilled. We can feel it already.”
He said this during question time at the roundtable discussion on ’13th General Election: Who Will the
Malaysians Vote For?’ organised by the Political, Security and International Affairs Cluster of the National
Professors Council here today.
As such, Dr Fuad said he expected the 13th general election to be held around November this year or
after the Chinese New Year celebration next year.
“The 2013 Budget will be tabled in September and it will probably become the best announcement for
the people. So, there is a possibility that the Parliament be dissolved in October and the general election
be held in November,” he said.
On a question whether the Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would make an impact in
the 13th general election, Dr Fuad said a candidate must not corrupt, but instead should have a good
personality and moral values.
“These criteria have vital roles, but they depend on how the people see the candidate. The people can
think for themselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, Assoc Prof Dr Rohana Yusof from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) said a recent survey
showed that 70 per cent of 10,800 respondents in Kedah had no confidence in Anwar’s leadership.
“They prefer to focus on issues that will benefit them and their future as compared to issues raised by Anwar, which are deemed outdated, fabricated and no longer have any impact,” she said. — BERNAMA
